Three Elliott Wave rules that should sit behind a Signal stop
A full Elliott count takes time. Three rules do not. If a Signal Provider frames a setup as an impulse, the stop loss should fail at the same place the count fails.
On PipAlert the stop is a field on the Signal. You can compare it to the chart before you size the trade in the risk calculator.
Wave 2 cannot erase wave 1
Wave 2 retraces wave 1. It does not trade beyond the start of wave 1. A stop for a wave 3 idea belongs just past that origin.
If price is already through the start of wave 1, the impulse count you were shown is finished. A stop that still sits inside the old wave 1 range is not protecting that thesis.
Wave 3 is never the shortest motive leg
Among waves 1, 3, and 5, wave 3 cannot be the shortest. A diagonal is also not allowed in the wave 3 slot of a standard impulse.
When a Channel calls the current leg "wave 3" and it is already shorter than both neighbors, ask for a revised count before you add size. The label and the rule are in conflict.
Wave 4 does not overlap wave 1
In a standard impulse, wave 4 does not cross into the price territory of wave 1. Overlap is allowed in diagonals. It is not allowed in the impulse most providers mean when they say "five waves up."
A stop for a wave 5 entry often sits beyond the wave 4 extreme, and that extreme itself must respect the overlap rule. If wave 4 has already overlapped wave 1, you are looking at a different pattern. Treat the Signal as a new idea, not a continuation of the old one.
What to do with the Signal in front of you
- Mark the invalidation the rule implies. The invalidation level is the price where the count is wrong.
- Compare it to the Signal's stop loss. A few pips of buffer past the level is normal. A stop in the middle of the structure is a different trade.
- Size from that distance. Lot size follows dollar risk and stop pips, not how confident the commentary sounds.
Progress Actions are how a live Signal should change if the count changes: move the stop, mark a partial take-profit, or close it. A count that quietly flips in chat while the old stop stays up is the case these three rules are meant to catch.
