What is Audience?

Audience is which Subscribers a Signal, Announcement, or Trade Idea is for: free Subscribers, paid Subscribers, or both. It is not a generic permission system.

Signal Providers choose Audience when they publish. A Channel with both free and paid Packages can send paid-only Signals while still posting Announcements to everyone.

Before you join, check whether the setups you care about are on free Audience or locked to paid Packages. That is part of evaluating a Channel.
